One Year Bible Reading Guide For Today:

Mark 5 & 6; Psalms 17: Mark 5-6 Summary: Jesus is now in the region of Gerasenes. He immediately is confronted by a demon possessed man and sets him free. The people in his home town knew of him living in the cemetery and are in awe of God in the transformation this man has gone through. Jesus earthly ministry continues with Him raising a girl from dead back to life again. Next we have the account of Jesus healing a woman who suffered resulting from poor medical treat. Pursuing Jesus strengthens her faith and she is healed. In contrast to His ministry while travelling the people in Jesus home community don't place their faith in Him. Instead they mock Him, limiting the ministry He engages in. Jesus commissions His disciples to teach, heal and drive out demons. Herad ordered John the Baptist to be arrested. On account of peer pressure Herod orders John the Baptist to be put to death. Jesus ministry continues with teaching a large crowd. He sensed their hunger for the gospel. Following this teaching Jesus performs a miracle feeding the five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish. Following this ministry Jesus disciples go ahead of Him by boat to Bethsaida. When Jesus is able to catch up He walks on water. This initially scares His disciples, but when they realize it is Him they are calm. Jesus joins them in their boat. Psalm 17 Summary: The heart of David yearned for more of the Lord God to be in his life. This psalm will teach you to cry out for God. It will help you realize the Lord is our true source of hope.

The Verse of the Day Blog

Contributed by LaShaundra Blake of Oxford, MS (Wednesday February 17th, 2010 9:36 am):

I am encouraged by this verse because I realize that as human beings we desire to be accepted and appreciated by others. So often we are accepted only if we act a certain way. As a Christian I desire to be around other Christians so this message helps me discern between those who are Christians simply because they belong to my church and those who are truly imitators of Christ. I will know by how they act and they will know by how I act.
