One Year Bible Reading Guide For Today:
Leviticus 19, 20 & 21: The Lord is speaking to Moses concerning the laws the Israelites must follow if they are to succeed as a nation. The focus of each rule isn't to restrict them, but is motivated for them to live in God's standard of holiness. The foundation of the culture God has for the Israelites is found in this passage of scripture. The Lord is establishing consequences for inappropriate behaviour. These boundaries are for the good of the Israelites if they are to survive as a nation now that they are no longer living as slaves in Egypt. Many of the rules the Israelites are to follow include an explanation of why it is disgraceful for God's people to act like this. It is the Lord's heart that His people live in unity in establishing these regulations to govern their lives. God is establishing a standard of living for those who govern His people. With the priests intimately involved in the lives of the Israelites the Lord establishes rules the priests must live by for the well being of the Israelites.
