One Year Bible Reading Guide For Today:
Leviticus 22, 23 & 24: Here we read a summary of the laws the Lord is establishing with the Israelites. The Lord is building on this foundation to increase understanding among His chosen people. With the holiness of the living God the Israelites need to comprehend the sacredness of their sacrifices and why they must be without defect. A number of examples are provided as to what is unacceptable sacrifice in the eyes of the Lord. The Lord is establishing the Israelite population as a Theocracy --- that is a culture inspired by the holiness of God. A number of festivals are being established in honouring the Lord bringing the Israelite population out of the land of bondage (Egypt). A standard of living is established where by the love of God is the foundation of the culture. At the center of the culture are the sacrifices and the work of the priests (that is Aaron and his sons). When the authority of God is challenged by a blasphemer the Israelite community responds in God's holiness: The individual is stoned to death. His behaviour is inappropriate in God's community.
