One Year Bible Reading Guide For Today:
Leviticus 25, 26 & 27; Proverbs 3: The Lord is in dialogue with Moses discussing the special festivals the Isralite culture will be a part of. These strengthen the relationship the people have with their Lord and strengthen bonds among the Israelites. The Lord is declaring the land to have a year of rest following six years of sowing and harvesting crops. The Lord also establishes the "Year of Jubilee". In this celebration land which has been sold is returned to it's original owners. In our modern terms this is equal to the land being leased until the next "Year of Jubilee" when the lease is fulfilled. If the Israelites choose to follow the Lord His blessing will be evident. Things such as peace in the land and bountiful harvests are examples of God's blessing. If disobedience towards God is pursued by the Israelites they will experience failed crops and live in fear. The Israelites are reminded again that the Lord is to be honoured and set apart.
