Blessed Assurance
There are many promises in the Bible such as; believers going to Heaven, and that he walks with us through valleys and carries our burdens (if we let him), He loves us regardless, he forgives and forgets, has patience with us, etc. The most astounding promise to me, is the assurance we have (the promise) of salvation that can not be removed. Once your name is written in the book of life, it will not be blotted out.
Revelation 3:5 "He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels." NASB
Overcomer's are believers. So this is not a verse that some take as a possibility of loosing your salvation, but as a promise that all true believers will never loose their salvation. This is only one assurance example.
The book of Jude has many examples of assurance.
Jude 1:3 "Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." NASB
Your responsibility as a believer is to defend the faith, motivate others, and be a caretaker of the Word entrusted to us.
The latter part of the book of Jude reminds us we must first have a relationship, (rock solid) with our sovereign Savior.
Jude 1:20-21 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life." NASB
How do you build yourself in faith? Study, meditate, memorize, hide the word in your heart. In this way, you will be able to accomplish the next verse.
Jude 1:22-23 "And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh." NASB
We are not saved by works, but if we truly have a rock solid relationship with Christ, then we will want to do good works. We will want to make sure our friends, family and strangers go to Heaven. We will be motivated by the Holy Spirit to be go-getters in spreading the faith and be confident caretakers of the Word.
The very best and most exciting assurance in Jude is the last two verses.
Jude 1: 24-25 "Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen." NASB
Wow! we can rejoice and get excited! Look at our security - not a single fault! Look at all the reminders: glory, majesty, power and authority. He is Omniscient (He knows it all), Omnipotent (He has all the power and authority) and Omnipresent (Everywhere you go He is there). He is before all the ages.
The author, Jude, the brother of James, even puts an exclamation point at the end. This is a statement of excitement. Even though he wants to immediately talk about the excitement of salvation, he first felt he had to warn Christians of false teachers. The immoral men circulating among them.
We should be on our guard against false teachers, for this is how to prevent from falling into temptations. We should also be motivated and confident to spread the Word. And most of all, we should be excited and grateful for the assurance that we have from the Lord that we will be joint heirs with Him in the kingdom of Heaven.
We all have the same problem.
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" NASB
And we have the same provision.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." NASB
Assurance is worthy of celebration!
